Revisiting the Strategic Plan
The Jewish Agency Strategic Plan was approved in June 1999. Today's world
is dramatically different: Israel is struggling with terrorism and a socio-economic
crisis that is exacerbating the already huge gaps in society; the demographic
threat facing the country has come to the forefront; the road to peace is uncertain.
Anti-Semitism continues to affect Jewish communities throughout the globe; the
connection of the next generation of young Jews to Israel cannot be guaranteed.
The world economy continues to teeter on the edge of recession, seriously philanthropy.
These changes in the operational environment of the Jewish Agency have resulted
in the decision to revisit the strategic plan. During the February retreat, research
regarding these changes was presented to the Strategic Committee and to Board
of Governors, and discussions were held in break out groups. This process now
continues over the Internet, allowing all members of the BOG to express their opinions
in an ongoing virtual dialog that will form the basis of the recommendations for possible
courses of action. These will be presented to the BOG in June for discussion.
