November 1999
Every month we receive a number of requests regarding hebrew study over the
internet. While we have not found any real ulpan out there, here are a few sites
which warrant further interest.

Hebrew Language comes from the University of Texas at Austin.
There are many noteworthy features and the site is well laid out.
I enjoyed the puzzles and a number of other features but after waiting for 5 minutes
to download the movie I gave up.

A company called DaaT has an interesting idea for teaching
Biblical and Modern Hebrew and Biblical Literature over the
internet for a fee. While we do not usually put commercial sites on the Top Ten, they
do offer you a number of bits for free. I especially enjoyed their analysis of the word
Berishit. I took the hebrew test for fun as well but I wont tell you the results.

Finally, a plug for ourselves. Are you interested in learning a new phrase a week?
Done with a humorous spin you can also receive them over email.
Next month we will post a few more.

If you enjoy reading Stuart Shoffman, Ehud Ya'Ari, Yossi Klein Halevi, Netty Gross
etc etc..go to The Jerusalem
Report. It has long been a favorite for many people who wish in-depth
reporting on the Israel Scene. The graphics are clean and load pretty quickly.

Most of us enjoy looking at old photographs. One easy way to look is at the YIVO
Jewish Institute for Learning.
The photographs may be a bit out of focus but they are definitely effective.

The Jews of Cuba. A timely and comprehensive website on the rebirth of
Judaism in Cuba. Judaism in Cuba was severely restricted
for almost three decades. Now it is being rebuilt by the ten percent of the Jewish
population which remained after the "revolution." As they struggle to survive,
new strains are put upon them as entire families leave for Israel.
Read the latest news concerning Cuban immigration to Israel
via JAFI in the News.

Starting this month, Top 10 will focus on one Israeli city each month.
This month's selection is Beit Shemesh Cyber Salon.
This site is a community project that is helpful and practical in
getting acquainted with Beit Shemesh.
Check out the online Tour Guide. Whether it's touring Beit Shemesh or
taking a day off, it's worthwhile to check their database for ideas.

Being Jewish.
This site is loaded with interesting articles on basic Judaism presented
in an appealing fashion.
Warning! If you happen to suffer from motion sickness, tread carefully.
This site is chock full of graphics in motion.

Jacob Richman's Israel Business Resources

the business entrepreneur.

The Flag of Israel and
Famous Portraits on the Stamps of Israel
were chosen to commemorate the
United Nation General Assembly Resolution 181, U.N. Partition Plan - Nov 29
1947. The approval of the Partition Plan set in motion events that would bring
about the creation of the State of Israel.
Many of you probably wondered why streets in Israel are named
Chof Tet B'November. Well, now you know.
Now try the quizzes. Enjoy!
