Jewish Agency Chairman Sallai Meridor Wears Kippa During Visit to Paris Today (Thurs. 17th March)

Following the recent anti-Semitic events in France and growing reports that Jews are afraid to identify openly as Jews on the street, the Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, Sallai Meridor, decided that during his visit to Paris today he would wear a kippa wherever he went.

Last year the Chief Rabbi of France, Rabbi Joseph Sitruk, recommended that Jews in France refrain from wearing kippot on the street for fear of being attacked, but that they wear another form of headgear.

The Chairman of the Jewish Agency, Sallai Meridor, stated at the time that on his next visit to Paris he would wear a kippa without fear or hesitation, and during his current visit Sallai Meridor has been seen on the streets of Paris proudly donning his kippa.
