Jewish Agency for Israel brings 100 new immigrants on special flight from Argentina to
Israel in cooperation with Keren Hayesod on Thursday June 3rd
For the first time a group from the women’s division of Keren Hayesod in Argentina will
accompany the flight.
At the initiative of the Jewish Agency for Israel and Keren Hayesod a special flight with
100 new immigrants from Latin America will land at Ben-Gurion Airport on Thursday June 3rd
at 5:00 PM on El-Al flight LY396. The new immigrants will be accompanied by representatives
from the women’s division of Keren Hayesod in Argentina, who will be attending the World
Assembly of Keren Hayesod’s Women’s Division which will take place next week in Upper
Nazareth. This is the first time that a group from the local Jewish community will be
accompanying a flight of new immigrants to Israel. On this flight there will also be a
group of 15 youth who will be participating in an educational program with Israeli youth
run by the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI).
This group of new immigrants includes about 100 people from Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay.
Most of the immigrants will be integrated within the “Immigration 2000” project of JAFI for
absorption in the fields of employment, education, and job retraining. The JAFI Immigration
Department estimates that 1000 Jews will immigrate to Israel from Argentina in 1999.
The following are some human-interest stories of the immigrants arriving on this flight:
A young speech therapist who visited Israel within the framework of the Jewish Agency’s
"Apprenticeship program" and met in Israel a doctor from her hometown in Argentina. Now she
is returning with a wedding dress in her suitcase, and will be met by her future husband at
the airport. After the wedding she will begin work at "Beit Loewenstein" in Ra’anana. The
young immigrant speaks a fluent Hebrew.
A well-known soccer player from the "San Lorenzo" Club of the Argentinean Premier League.
A young female doctor fluent in Hebrew, who has been accepted to a project for immigrant
doctors at the Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheba.
A young immigrant who has been accepted to a professional Hi-Tech retraining program.
He will reside at the Kiryat-Bialik absorption center within the framework of the
"Immigration 2000" project.
The delegation is being headed by Ms. Nava Rubenzadeh, International President of Keren
Hayesod’s Women’s Division, who initiated this joint flight. The immigrants will be greeted
at the Airport by Keren Hayesod World Chaiman, Avi Pazner; Chairman of the JAFI Immigration
Committee, Chaim Chesler; and a representative of the Ministry of Immigration.
The immigrants are arriving on El-Al flight LY396 from Madrid (a connecting flight from
Buenos Aires) which lands at Ben-Gurion Airport at 5:00 PM. A ceremony will take place on
the tarmac alongside the plane. Call 03-9723344 to confirm final flight arrival time.
