The XXXIII/3 Session of the Zionist General Council opens in
Jerusalem
On Sunday night June 13th, the festive opening ceremony of the Zionist General Council XXXIII/3 session took place at the Jerusalem International Convention Center (Binyanei Hauma) in the presence of the Mayor of Jerusalem Ehud Olmert; Chairman of the World Zionist Organization, Sallai Meridor; and Chairman of the Jewish Agency Board of Governors, Charles (Corky) Goodman.
Earlier in the day the Zionist Executive approved the appointment of Herzl Makov as Secretary General of the World Zionist Executive.
On Monday June 14th the Zionist General Council will convene at the Hyatt Hotel on Mt. Scopus in Jerusalem and will ratify the election of Sallai Meridor as Chairman of the World Zionist Organization, and Chaim Chesler as Treasurer.
Between 16:00-18:00 at the Scopus Hall of the Hyatt Hotel, the subject of Immigration (Aliyah) from the Diaspora will be discussed. There will be a panel with emissaries who have returned from the United States, Argentina, South Africa, and the Former Soviet Union.
The evening plenary will convene at Kiryat Moriah, the headquarters of the Jewish Agency for Israel's Jewish-Zionist Education Department, in Talpiot Jerusalem, at 7:00 PM with a reception and tribute to outgoing Chairman of the Zionist Executive, Avraham Burg MK. The theme of the evening is "The Zionist Movement Salutes the Israel Experience". Israel Experience participants will tell their personal stories, and there will be an artistic program in song and dance by teenagers participating in the South African Ulpan (Hebrew language program)
Tuesday June 15th program at the Hyatt Hotel in Jerusalem includes
- 13:00 luncheon with President Ezer Weizman
- 15:30 Address by acting Chairman of the Likud, Foreign Minister, Ariel Sharon.
- 20:00 Panel with Members of Knesset.
