Arieh Azoulay - Former Mayor of Ashdod -
has been appointed Acting Chairman
of the Aliyah Committee of JAFI.
Arieh Azoulay, member of the Zionist Executive and Board of Governors of the
Jewish Agency for Israel, has been appointed Acting Chairman of the Aliyah and
Absorption Committee of the Jewish Agency.
Azoulay, who served in recent years as the head of the Jewish Agency delegation in
France and Europe, will replace Haim Chessler, who has been appointed Treasurer
of the Jewish Agency.
Arieh Azoulay, married and father of three, made aliyah to Israel in 1955 from
Morocco. He has an MA in Jewish History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem
and has held various public positions, among them Chairman of the Directorate of
the Association of Community Centers, mayor of Ashdod, and founder and principal
of Meikif "G" School in Ashdod.
The Aliyah Department of the Jewish Agency deals with bringing new immigrants to
Israel from around the world and assisting in their preliminary absorption in Israel.
Each year, the Department brings approximately 60,000 new immigrants to Israel.
