Housing for the Elderly

Jewish Agency, through its Amigour Housing Corporation, is Israel's largest provider of housing for the elderly.

Amigour currently owns 4,750 housing units in 46 sheltered housing facilities. All units are built to accommodate the needs of the elderly and are equipped with emergency call systems and modern safety devices. Facilities are equipped with club and activity rooms and offer a range of leisure activities. Residents are involved as far as possible with running the facilities.

Jewish Agency is currently renovating and adapting a number of absorption centers and hostels to create another 2,000 housing units for the elderly.

The rising need for public housing for the elderly is a result of the mass immigration over the last eight years, and is likely to increase. Around 15% of immigrants from the FSU are over the age of 65.

Amigour also manages 30,000 apartments, primarily in development towns, which are rented to new immigrants, young couples and large families. Amigour provides community and social services and faciltates the establishment of housing committees.
