The Jewish Agency Program for Allocations for Innovative and Creative Projects, has allocated well over $30,000,000 since it was established 15 years ago. The hundreds of programs funded, respond to some of Israeli society's most pressing needs in an innovative and creative manner. Jewish communities across North America and around the JEWISH world, through the Allocations program, have supported more than 400 organizations in Israel and have impacted the lives of thousands of individuals.

The emphasis of the allocations program responds to the changing needs of Israeli society. At present, funding is being provided for programs which promote Jewish identity, foster mutual respect among all citizens of Israel, and further unity among the Jewish people of Israel - immigrants and veteran Israelis, religious, secular, etc.

The Jewish Agency Allocations Unit evaluates each project that requests funding according to a number of criteria. These include the degree to which it is innovative and creative, its relevance to current issues and needs in Israeli society, and the degree to which it promotes individual and community volunteerism and empowerment. Programs must demonstrate appropriate planning and feasibiltiy, and include a justifiable and appropriate budget.

Jewish Agency staff reviews each application for its eligibility and compliance with procedural requirements. Eligible projects are referred to a Professional Evaluation Committee that assesses the programmatic and budgetary content of each application and makes its recommendations for funding to the Allocations Subcommittee. Final funding is subject to approval by the Jewish Agency's Board of Governors.

Progam allocations are granted on an annual basis, for a maximum of three years, providing up to 75% of the total project budget. The allocations are designed to encourage the creation and development of new programs by providing the initial support needed to leverage additional funding in order to become self-sustaining and independent. Each project must provide periodic programmatic and financial reports in order to receive the allocation. The allocation is paid in four installments spread over the year. Projects are monitored and evaluated by experienced Jewish Agency staff. Donors are provided with progress reports, including human interest stories and photographs.

The Jewish Agency allocations program plays a vital role in assisting Israeli non-profit organizations in their work of building a more just, democratic, pluralistic and caring society. These allocations are an essential element in the Jewish Agency's efforts to improve the quality of life in Israel.
