The Summer Shlichim Program strongly believes that the right type of preparation
and orientation gives the Shlichim the necessary tools and background to
make the summer a success.
Preparation starts with a 5 day educational extravaganza.
The aims are simple - to give the Shlichim all the information they need
about their summer experience, starting from the type of community, the
goals of each organization, the camping experience, moving onto "camp specifics"
including daily schedules, camp organization and camper characteristics.
The seminar also deals with the role of Shlichim at summer camps, how to
make an impact, the do's and dont's, the role of a counselor and many, many
other important issues.
The participants are split according to Movement or Organization, and their
group leaders are all "vatikim", Shlichim who have been at a summer camp
at least once. They have all been carefully selected according to
their understanding of "Shlichut", their success at summer camps (according
to the camp Directors) and their outstanding ability as leaders.
Camp Directors are invited to participate in the Orientation Seminar and
make an invaluable contribution - giving the Shlichim "first hand" information.
