1000 BCE - Jerusalem becomes King David’s capital; Solomon builds the First temple; the kingdom is divided into Israel and Judah.

722 BCE - Fall of the Kingdom of Israel; expansion of Jerusalem under Hezekiah; decline and fall of Judah; Babylonian exile.

538 BCE - Return to Zion under the leadership of Ezra and Nechemia; construction of the Second temple.

332 BCE - Jerusalem comes under Hellenistic domination.

166 BCE - Maccabean revolt; restoration of the Jewish autonomy; Hasmonean empire.

63 BCE - Invasion of Israel by Roman forces under Pompeii; Kingdom of Herod;

0 - Rule of Roman procurators; Development of Jewish resistance to Roman domination.

66 CE - Great Jewish Revolt; destruction of Jerusalem and Second temple; Massada, Center of the Jewish leadership moves to the Galil.

132 CE - Bar Kochba Revolt; Jerusalem razed and rebuilt as Aelia Capitolina; Jews excluded from Jerusalem.

324 CE - Talmudic period; decline of Israel as Jewish center.

638 CE - Arab conquest of Jerusalem; construction of Dome of the Rock and El Aksa Mosques; renewal of Jerusalem settlement.

1100 CE - Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem; return of Jews to Jerusalem and worship at Western Wall.

1300 CE - Marmaluke rule of Jerusalem; Jews expelled from Spain.

1517 CE - Ottoman Empire rules Jerusalem; growth of Jewish community.

1789 CE - Napoleon in Israel; Ottoman Reform.

1860 CE - First settlement outside the walls; First Zionist Congress; First Aliya.

1917 CE - British Mandate in Palestine; Holocaust; partition plan

1948 CE - State of Israel proclaimed; reunification of Jerusalem (1967).

1996 CE - 3,000 years sine the establishment of Jerusalem as the capital city by King David.
