ASHKELON

The Philistines demand that the Hebrews turn Samson over to them with his feet and hands bound to avoid reprisals. But he does not allow himself to be bound only to lash out once again against his enemies:

The blow of the jaw

And when he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him and the spirit of God came upon him. The cords binding his arms became like flax that was burnt with fire and melted off his hands. And he found a fresh jawbone of an ass and put out his hand to seize it and slew a thousand men with it. And Samson said, “With the jawbone of an ass, heaps of victims! With the jawbone of an ass, I slew a thousand men.”

Judges 15: 14 – 16
