JERUSALEM IN THE FIRST TEMPLE PERIOD
Yad Ben Zvi - The Rachel Yanait Ben Zvi Youth Education Center
Purpose: Learn about Jerusalem during the First Temple
period: how and why King David established Jerusalem as the
nation's capital and spiritual center; demonstration of the
practical working of biblical Jerusalem including water supply and
more; locations of archeological sites relative to the layout
of present day Jerusalem.

Process: Field trip-workshop: a guided see-and-learn
experience centering on a large, geographically precise model of
First Temple Jerusalem with moving parts and miniature replicas
of actual acheological finds. A sound and light show is
preceded and followed by guided discussions and demonstrations.
Closing discussion includes amusing memory-jogging games.

Target group: Hebrew, English or Russian speakers, 12 years
old through adult.
No. of Participants: 10-30.
Duration of activity: 65 minutes including introductory
and summary talks.
Location of activity: Old city of Jerusalem.
Aids and materials: Illustrations of daily life in First
Temple Jerusalem. Educational game sheets on Jerusalem's
geography, water system, ancient alphabet, burial rites.
Special requirements: Advance reservations are strongly
advised so that arrangements may be made for groups of 30 and for
English speaking guides.
