Buzz Words on Core Issues
There are a number of old issues that keep returning in the Israel-bashing
rhetoric, which obviously have a much deeper background - but are
used as one-liners. Note and use the facts, but do read up on the
subject.
1. UN Security Council Resolution #242
Contrary to popular belief, UN Security Council Resolution #242
only calls for Israel withdrawal from "territories". It
does not call for Israel withdrawal from all territories to pre-67
borders. There is no mention of Palestinian territory or sovereignty
(or Palestine!)
2. The Truth About Palestinian Refugees - Part 1
In her book "From Time Immemorial", Joan
Peters writes that the United Nations redefined the term refugee
to include anyone who had lived in Palestine "for a minimum
of two years" before 1948. This is when the neighboring Arab
nations began encouraging their people to participate in a massive
land-grab in what was to become the State of Israel.
3. The Truth About Palestinian Refugees - Part 2
In the same book, Ms. Peters also points out that the number of
Arab refugees may have been inflated by as much as 150,000, due
to the UNs inability to take an accurate census, unreported
deaths and inflated birth figures and the inclusion of indigent
non-refugees in the final count.
