5. For the Fence: what major figures are saying about the ICJ ruling

Senator Charles Schumer:

"There is no way the fence is going to come down nor should it. Anyone who cares about saving human life would not let the fence come down".

US Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton:

"If it does come up for a vote, I hope that the countries which have opposed politicizing the ICJ will stand united, will send a very clear message that a sovereign democracy has the right to protect its citizens".

US Secretary of State Colin Powell:

The court's opinion is "non-binding" and it is up to Israel to decide "what reaction they wish to have to it". The fence has" cut down the number of people crossing over to conduct terrorist attacks".

US Senator and Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry:

"I am deeply disappointed by today's International Court of Justice ruling related to Israel's security fence. Israel's fence is a legitimate response to terror that only exists in response to the wave of terror attacks against Israel. The fence is an important tool in Israel's fight against terrorism. It is not a matter for the ICJ".

US Representative to the UN John Danforth:

"The judicial process is not the political process, and the International Court of Justice was not the appropriate forum to resolve this conflict."… "Mr. President, the resolution before us is one sided, and moves away from the political process that leads to a two-state solution. The resolution adopts a confusing and troubling interpretation of Article 51. The United States will vote against the resolution".

Israeli Opposition leader Labor MK Shimon Peres:

The ICJ "ignored the fact that the right to stay alive is a basic human right," criticizing the international court for omitting the main reason Israel is building the fence.

Sami Mcarah Arab Israeli:

"I used to be opposed to the security fence, but now I support it, and I'm going to start a foundation to support the fence's construction"
Mcarah was injured in the Tel Aviv terrorist bomb attack 11th July 2004. He is Chairman of the non-profit organization "Equal Peace", working to create equality between Arabs and Jews.
