Eliyahu Bakshi Doron (1941 - )

Eliyahu Bakshi Doron was born 1941 in Jerusalem. He studied at the "Dugma" National Religious Primary School and at the Yeshiva High School in Rehovot. He then returned to Jerusalem to study at the Hebron Yeshiva, where he was soon regarded as an outstanding scholar. After his marriage, Rav Bakshi Doron continued learning in the Kollels of "Mossad Harav Kook" and "Kol Yaakov", acquiring a unique style of learning that combines accuracy and proficiency.

1970 He was appointed rabbi in Bat Yam where he also became Chief Rabbi in 1972.

In 1975, he was appointed to the position of Chief Rabbi of Haifa, a position in which he served for 18 years.

In 1993, Bakshi Doron was appointed Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel.

Chief Rabbi Doron has written many articles on religious issues. His first book was published in 1982 and presents research on halachic questions. The second book (1989) and the third (1995) address with everyday halachic problems and include speeches delivered on special occasions.

Chief Rabbi Doron also serves as President of the Committee of Sephardic Communities and on several social and charitable foundations. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of LIBI.
