Extract: The Balfour Declaration, 31 October 1917

His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in
Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use
their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object,
it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may
prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish
communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed
by Jews in any other country."

The Zionist Draft, 18 July 1917
"His Majesty's Government, after considering the aims of the Zionist
organization, accept the principle of recognizing Palestine as
the National Home of the Jewish people [...]
"His Majesty's Government regard as essential for the realization of
this principle the grant of internal autonomy [...], freedom of
immigration for Jews and the establishmen of a Jewish National
Colonizing Corporation for the re-establishment and economic
development of the country.
"The conditions and forms of the internal autoomy and a Charter for
the Jewish National Colonizing Corporation should [...] be elaborated
in detail and determined with the representatives of the Zionist
Organization."

headed by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, with the British government.

for the future of the Zionist movement.

recognizes the Jewish right to a "national home."
