The Volunteer/Study Programs
The value of volunteering is entrenched in Jewish tradition, and Israel has reaped much from the contributions of volunteers from home and abroad. Anyone who has given of their time to help others can tell of the enormous personal satisfaction they derived from it, and anyone who has done that in Israel, can lay claim not only to personal satisfaction, but to an unforgettable cultural and historical learning experience. All of these programs offer added cultural components,including trips around the country, lectures and seminars.

Professional Internships
The Professional Internship program is designed for young adults who want to get to know Israel. The program, which runs year-round for a two-to-six month period, offers valuable, unpaid work experience in firms and institutions throughout Israel. Interns work in their professions in a variety of locations, including hospitals, hotels, law firms, schools, community centers, and TV and radio stations, as well as government offices and public sector. Placements are arranged within the frame-work of the program and interns receive a monthly stipend. Ages 19-35.

MDA (Magen David Adom)

"Saving one life is like saving the whole world." teaches the Talmud. The Magen David Adom Ambulance volunteer program is a two month program in which participants gain valuable hands-on experience in first-aid and emergency care. Participants are housed in absorption centers in major cities. For those with no prior training, a 45-hour first-aid training course is available.

WUJS Institute-Arad
The WUJS (World Union of Jewish Students) program in Arad is for college graduates, tourists or new immigrants who want to combine their Hebrew studies with academic-level courses in Jewish history, Judaica and Israel-related subjects. Upon completing the seven-month study period, students find placement for the work/volunteer/study module.

Project Otzma
Otzma was created by Israelis and Americans to develop a young leadership who understand the history and importance of the Israel/Diaspora relationship. This 10-month program offers Jewish adults ages 20-24 an opportunity to experience Israel in a variety of settings. The first 3-month track is spent studying Hebrew, while during the second track, participants volunteer in their home community's twin neighborhood, city or region. Education seminars, workshops and field trips are part of the program.

Kibbutz Volunteer
Tourists in Israel between the ages of 18 and 35 can become volunteers on a kibbutz for a period of two to six months. While living on the kibbutz, the volunteers work six days a week, usually in agriculture, services or tourism. Volunteers receive free housing, meals, laundry, pocket money and three vacation days a month. Tours of Israel are arranged for the volunteers by the kibbutz.

Kibbutz Ulpan
This five-month program, based on kibbutzim around the country, divides each week between Hebrew studies and work. Classes are available at all levels and the program includes tours and seminars. College credits are available. Ages 18-35.

Sar El - Volunteers for Israel
Sar El offers adults of all ages the opportunity to spend two weeks on military bases performing non-combative duties. In an optional third week, participants may choose to volunteer on an archeological excavation, at a hospital, or at the Jerusalem Botanical Garden. Dates are flexible.

Marva
An eight-week program running four times a year, Marva is geared to 18-28 year olds who already know some Hebrew. Participants tour the country, camp out and learn outdoor skills, navigation and topography.

Undergraduate/Year or Semester Abroad Programs
Education has long been a pride of the Jewish people, and Israel's first-rate universities are proof of this living heritage. Students from abroad may opt for a year, a summer, a semester or a full degree program taught in English at one of the universities, or new immigrants may embark upon a university degree in Hebrew (financial assistance is available from the Student Authority for eligible applicants).
