"LION OF JUDAH - ISRAEL CHAPTER" WOMEN'S ORGANIZATION RECRUITS NEW MEMBERS & EXPANDS ACTIVITIES The annual opening event of the "Lion of Judah - Israel" women's organization was held in early November, under the auspices of the United States' Embassy in Israel, attended by wife of the Ambassador, Mrs. Sheila Kurtzer. "Lion of Judah - Israel" is an organization of Israeli women philanthropists established five years ago, now an integral part of Haruach Hayisraelit (the Israeli Spirit), the national fundraising organization established by the Jewish Agency and Keren Hayesod. Over the last year, the International Lion of Judah Organization has raised $196 million. Each member donates NIS 5,000 per year. Donations are used to support social projects on behalf of women and young girls at risk. More than 100 women attended the event held at the home of the U.S. Ambassador, the purpose of which was to recruit new members and expand women's areas of activity in Israel, as well as their influence on the social issues agenda. Mrs. Kurtzer congratulated participants for their donations and activities, and Dr. Daniel Gordis gave the audience his own views on the state of contemporary Judaism in Israel and abroad against the backdrop of events in recent months. In addition, gold lion brooches were given to new members. Each new member is given a gold lion brooch as a symbol of the unity and uniqueness of the women in the group.
