CAROLE SOLOMON ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF JEWISH AGENCY BOARD OF GOVERNORS Ms. Solomon, Vice Chair of UJC, to succeed Alex Grass, who completes his term in June
![]() Carole Solomon, newly elected Chairman of the Jewish Agency Board of Governors (Photo: Joe Malcolm) Ms. Solomon was recommended by a nine-member committee that included Alex Grass; former Chairmen of the Board of Governors Max Fisher, Mendel Kaplan, and Charles Goodman; Harvey Wolfe, Chairman of the Keren Hayesod Board of Trustees; Irwin H. Levy, Chairman of the Budget and Finance Subcommittee on Finance and Administration; Jane F. Sherman, Chairman of the UIA; and Morris Offit, Chairman of the UJA-Federation of New York. Three candidates had vied for the position: Robert Goldberg, Chairman of the Executive of the United Jewish Communities of North America (UJC); Richard L. Pearlstone, Member of the Board and Executive, and Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee; and Ms. Solomon. The Jewish Agency Board of Governors, comprised of 121 members, is the highest administrative body of the Jewish Agency. It oversees the operations of the Jewish Agency and is authorized to establish permanent and ad hoc committees. The Board meets three times a year, in February, June, and October. It formulates the Jewish Agency's budget and makes policy and operational decisions. Solomon is a Vice-Chair of UJC and Chairman of the Campaign/FRD Pillar. She is a former president of the UJA National Women's Campaign and was a member of the UJA Board of Trustees and Chair of its Budget and Finance Committee. She is a director of UJA-Federation of New York, as well as a former chair of its Partnership 2000 program. She serves as Vice-Chair of the UJA-Federation's Major Gifts Initiative She is also a member of the Board of the JDC. Solomon was formally Chair of the women's Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and Co-Chair for major gifts of that federation's Operation Exodus campaign. Solomon is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. A member of the Jewish Agency's Board of Governors since October 1994, she serves as Co-Chairman of the Aliyah and Klitah Committee and is a member of the Jewish Agency Executive.
