100 CHILDREN FROM ABSORPTION CENTERS IN THE SOUTH CELEBRATE BAR AND BAT MITZVAHS

Some 100 13-year old boys and 12 year-old girls who live at various Jewish Agency absorption centers in southern Israel this week celebrated their bar and bat mitzvahs. The sixty or so boys were called up to the Torah, and the girls took part in activities relating to the occasion.

During a special ceremony, each girl received candlesticks and a challah cover and the boys were each given a talith and tefillin. They all received prayer books. The religious articles were donated by various shops and individuals, as well as the Friends Association of the absorption centers. An Australian women's organization also donated NIS 50,000 to purchase festive clothing for the children.
