HEBREW SONG MONTH OPENED
AT PRESIDENT'S MANSION IN JERUSALEM
Hebrew Song Month, organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture's Culture Authority, in conjunction with Omanut La'am, opened last week at the President's Mansion in Jerusalem. Participating in the opening ceremony were President Moshe Katsav Minister of Education and Culture, Limor Livnat, and Chairman of Omanut La'Am, Elazar Shturm. The entire program, which featured leading Israeli singers such as Shuli Natan, Ilanit, and Arik Lavi, was broadcast on Israel TV.
The main events of Hebrew Song Month, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Culture, include:
A Hebrew song contest every Tuesday on Dan Hamitzer's radio program on Reshet Gimel
Israel Song Day at the Knesset on June 10. It will include a special discussion in the Education and Culture Committee headed by MK Ilan Shalgi, a performance, and a plenary discussion.
he festival, sponsored by Festival for a Shekel and Omanut La'am, will sponsor four main events featuring leading performers, in Yerucham (May 26), Shderot (May 27), Jerusalem (June 4), and Ma'a lot (June 9). Tickets cost one shekel.
30 years of song by Shimi Tabori on June 2 at Binyanei Ha'Ooma in Jerusalem, as part of the Israel Festival
A special performance of Israeli artists' first hits, at Kibbutz Yifat in the Jezreel Valley
Salute to composer Nurit Hirsch, as part of the Days of Milk and Honey Festival at Kibbutz Yifat (June 7)
