THOUSANDS VISIT JEWISH ALIYAH FAIRS IN PARIS & KIEV Many interested in aliyah, but express concern over economic plan
![]() A Jewish family investigates aliyah possibilities at the aliyah fair that took place this week in France Over two thousand Jews from throughout France took part earlier this week in a mega aliyah fair in Paris, near the Eiffel Tower, sponsored by the Jewish Agency, and another 2,500 people visited an aliyah fair in Kiev. Great interest was shown in immigrating to Israel by young French families, both religious and secular. However, "many of them expressed concern over the economic plan and its ramifications," noted the head of the Jewish Agency delegation to the fair, Moshe Almoznino. Nahariya mayor, Jacky Sebagh, Ashkelon mayor, Benny Ouaknine, and representatives of the municipality of Jerusalem, presented absorption options in their communities. Other participants included representatives of the Health Ministry, the National Insurance Institute, the Employment Service, and MATI-the Center for the Development of Entrepreneurship, as well as mortgage bankers and building contractors, who provided information on housing, employment, and other aspects of absorption. A high percentage of participants in the fair in Kiev, Ukraine, were young singles and families. Information on education, employment, and housing in the north of the country was provided by representatives of the municipalities of Haifa, Nazareth Elite, and Migdal Haemek as well as the Technion, the University of Haifa, and various companies. France, whose Jewish population numbers over 520,000, has the third largest Jewish community in the world. Kiev's Jewish population is 115,000. Additional aliyah fairs are planned in Marseilles and Dnepropetrovsk in the beginning of May and, next week, in Kharkov.
