Event transmitted via Internet from Jewish Agency's Contact Center on eve of memorial day for Yitzhak Rabin

Late Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin, of blessed memory

Yesterday, on the eve of the national memorial day for Yitzhak Rabin, a special educational presentation - "Shalom Chaver" - was transmitted via the Internet from the Jewish Agency's Contact Center to dozens of teachers and educators around the world.

The event took place as part of the Education Department's program "Issues in Teaching about Israel." The program was presented by Rabbi Zvi Grumet, who studied selections from the sources and Itai Himmelbaum from the Yitzhak Rabin Center for Israel Studies.

The purpose of the event was to enhance Israeli identity and strengthen the bond with the State of Israel through Rabin's life and his heritage to the Jewish people. The goal was also to turn the national memorial day into an integral part of the educational agenda in Jewish schools around the world.

According to Alan Hoffman, the director-general of the Education Department, "The lifework of Yitzchak Rabin, of blessed memory, which was dedicated to strengthening the State of Israel and advancing peace, constitutes a foundation stone of our educational work, which gives the significance of Israel to young Jews.

The event was broadcast in English from the Contact Center in the Kiryat Moriah campus in Jerusalem.

At the same time, the Department of Education launched a new site in memory of the late prime Minister that includes much educational information regarding his life and legacy, as well as various educational issues pertaining to the perpetuation of Rabin's legacy, the Oslo process and more. The site offers a link to a special forum where surfers can express their emotions regarding the murdered prime minister.
