FIRST TIME IN MOSCOW: JOINT FORUM FOR BUSINESSWOMEN FROM FSU AND ISRAEL

The first meeting of businesswomen from the former Soviet Union and Israel will take place in Moscow this weekend as part of a Jewish businesswomen's forum organized by the Jewish Agency. The forum is designed for businesswomen in a wide variety of fields such as medicine, beauty care, tourism, education and others, who are interested in establishing professional as well as social contacts with colleagues throughout the world.

Thirty-five Israeli women, some 70 businesswomen from all areas of the former Soviet Union, and representatives from the FSU emigre community in Germany will participate in the first meeting. Paula Edelstein, chairperson of the Jewish Agency's Israel Department and member of the Zionist Executive, and. Ronit Lev-Ari, director-general of the Authority to Advance the Status of Women in the Prime Ministers Office are heading the Israeli delegation.

This conference is the first step in building an ongoing international forum of Jewish businesswomen. Next year, the Jewish Agency has planned regional meetings of Jewish businesswomen in the FSU and expansion of the initiative to the West.

Paula Edelstein said that the Jewish Agency attaches the greatest importance to integrating women into the international business arena. The forum was organized by the Jewish Agency's P2P ("People to People") unit and the Former Soviet Union Departments.
