DOZENS OF FRENCH DENTISTS IN ISRAEL PREPARING FOR LICENSING EXAMS AND EXPLORING ALIYAH OPPORTUNITIES

57 French dentists arrived in Israel this week to take a special preparatory course for the Israel Dental Medicine Licensing Examination, and to explore professional employment opportunities and living options in Israel. Upon their return they will take the licensing exam, which will be administered in French. This will be the first time that this examination will be given abroad.

"The present program is part of a new Jewish Agency initiative to cater to the specific absorption needs of individual professional sectors, and reflects the ever-growing interest in aliyah shown by the French Jewish community," said Avi Kadoch, Jewish Agency emissary in Paris, who initiated this program and planned the trip. Last month, the Agency organized an orientation tour for French physicians.

Mr. Kadoch said that one of the obstacles for immigration of French dentists is the fact that immigrant dentists are required to take a licensing examination, which is composed of theoretical and practical exams. By arranging for a special syllabus in French, a preparatory course and the opportunity to take the theoretical examination in the French language in France prior to immigration, he believes that this hurdle may be overcome. The group spent several days taking an intensive preparatory course for the Ministry of Health's Israel Dental Medicine Licensing Exam at Tel Aviv University.

The dentists visited Ashdod, which serves as a model for municipal immigrant absorption, where they saw housing, education, employment and recreational options. They also met with dentists of French origin who are living in the city as well as with bank representatives who will explain about banking, financial investment and housing mortgages for housing.

The French visitors heard lectures by Dr. Shlomo Zusman, Director of the Ministry of Health's Dental Health Division, talks on entrepreneurship in Israel given by The Center For Business Enterprise, MATI-Ashdod, and lectures on the security situation given by the IDF Spokesperson. They also meet with Deputy Minister of Absorption, Yuli Edelstein and MK Yair Peretz, who heads the lobby for French Jewry at the Knesset.
