A FIRST: CHAIRMAN OF WUJS OBSERVER ON THE ZIONIST EXECUTIVE

As part of the trend to rejuvenate the institutions of the Zionist movement in Israel and abroad, the Zionist Executive ratified the addition of a representative of the Jewish students as an observer on the Executive.

The Zionist Executive is composed of 27 members. Peleg Reshef, Chairman of the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS), will become the 28th, with observer status.

Twenty-five percent of the delegates in the upcoming 34th Zionist Congress, which will convene next month, are between 18 and 35 years of age. Likewise 25 percent of the 190-member Zionist General Council is comprised of young adults in these age brackets.

Jewish Agency Chairman Sallai Meridor and the Agency's Treasurer Chaim Chesler, which were the driving forces behind these changes, lauded the importance that the WZO attributes to the active participation of students, who will be the next generation of Zionist leadership. Their weight is extremely important at the present juncture for Israeli information on university campuses.

Peleg Reshef, who was now elected to the Zionist Executive is 29 years of age. In the past he had served as chairman of the Haifa University Student Union.
