STUDY TOUR OF US AND RUSSIA FOR STUDENTS OF NATIONAL SECURITY COLLEGE - JEWISH AGENCY INITIATIVE At the initiative of the Jewish Agency, close to 50 students, officers - including those holding the rank of brigadier general - and instructors at the IDF National Security College, together with senior staff members of Israel's foreign service, are participating in a study tour of Jewish communities in the US and Russia. The visits are part of the section of the College's educational curriculum that deals with world Jewish communities and their relationship with the State of Israel. During their six-day visit to the US, which began on May 5, the Israeli officers and diplomats will visit centers of Jewish Agency activities in New York, Washington, Metro West, NJ and Philadelphia. They will also meet with North American Jewish leaders including the Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, Mort Zuckerman; National Director of Anti-Defamation League, Abe Foxman; Dede Feinberg, former Chairman of the Jewish Federation of Washington, David Harris, Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee, and many others. Between May 19 and 24, mission participants will visit centers of Jewish Agency educational and aliyah activities in Russia. In Moscow and St. Petersburg they will meet with the heads of the local Jewish communities, Jews who are preparing to come to Israel, and parents of soldiers serving in the IDF. In addition, they will meet with members of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Russian General Staff Academy, and will hold a series of policy and security meetings. Before going abroad, mission members met with the Chairman of the Jewish Agency Executive, Sallai Meridor, and its Director-General, Brig. Gen. (Res.) Giora Romm, who discussed the role of the Jewish people in Israel's national strength. In addition, Director-General of the Education Department, Alan Hoffman, spoke about the department's activities to strengthen Jewish Zionist education and Jewish identity among Jews the world over, and Director-General of the Israel Department, Meir Nitzan, reviewed the partnership projects been Israel and overseas Jewish communities. Director General of the FSU Department, Amos Lahat, is accompanying the mission abroad.
