VINTAGE CAR RALLY IN ISRAEL THIS MONTH TO RAISE FUNDS FOR JNF CENTENNIAL
 
The trip that began in Europe will culminate with a festive celebration at the Knesset. Its high point will be the dedication of the Nahal Lavan reservoir, for which rally participants have been raising funds

In honor of its one hundredth anniversary, the Jewish National Fund will this month hold its biennial vintage car rally. The rally, in which Jewish car collectors took part, started on April 21 in London and is now making its way to Belgium and France.

Upon completing the European leg of the journey,rally participants and their vehicles arrived by ferry at Haifa Port. The four-day rally in Israel began today (May 9). The cars will drive through Nitzana, Nachal Lavan (White Stream), the Dead Sea, Latrun, and will culminate with a festive event at the Knesset on Sunday May 12.

Participating vehicles include a Bentley Cabriole, a 2002 Nobel, a 1952 Elvis, a 1955 Jaguar 140XK, a 1960 Jaguar 150XK, a 1977 Daimler Sovereign 4.2, a 1981 Mercedes 280 CE, a 1966 Ferrari 550 Maranello, and others.

The high point of the rally will be the dedication of the Nachal Lavan Reservoir, (near Nitzana), which will take place at 3:00 p.m. today. This is a reservoir designed to hold approximately one million cubic meters of floodwaters, enabling them to enrich the underground water basins. The Jewish National Fund has invested some NIS 7 million ($1,458 million) in constructing the reservoir. The rally will raise NIS 2.8 million ($580,000) for the construction of the reservoir
