"THIS IS THE CENTURY OF ISLAM IN ITS STRUGGLE AGAINST THE US; THE CHOICE IS BETWEEN VICTORY AND DEATH FOR JIHAD" The Hamas movement, which belongs the World Islamic Brotherhood Organization, was first to use suicide attacks as part of "Jihad against the enemies of Islam." The purpose of the current suicide attack offensive directed against the State of Israel is, according to Hamas - based on Islamic religious tenets: "to help in the struggle for the liberation of all of Palestine." During the course of the war conductedthat was initiated by the Palestinian Authority against Israel in September 2000, some 100 suicide attacks have been carried out (by Hamas, the Islamic Jihad Movement, the Fatah, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine), murdering hundreds of Israeli civilians. Over the past several months, Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin has revealed his world view that Jihad is not only a means to "liberate Palestine" but also is "a legitimate struggle" against the West. Based on religious law Yassin justified threats against Western interests in Arab and Muslim countries and the realization of the "the right of self-defense" (i.e. Jihad), in view of "the crusade that the US is conducting against Islam" and "its support of imperialism." This new Hamas approach, which has significant political and financial support from Islamic organizations in Europe and the US, is blatantly expressed an open letter to the Islamic people for the holiday of Id el Adha (February 19, 2002, in which he wrote:
