HUNDREDS OF PARTICIPANTS FROM ABROAD AT WUJS CONGRESS - THE UMBRELLA ORGANIZATION OF JEWISH STUDENTS The Congress, which focused its discussions on hasbarah took place in Israel this year in solidarity with Israel Last week, approximately 300 Jewish students from around the world attended the annual WUJS congress - umbrella organization for Jewish students worldwide, which took place at Neveh Ilan with JAFI participation. Two hundred participants were from different places around the world and one hundred were from Israel. Representatives of Israeli student organizations, which form part of the umbrella organization, activists and representatives of "Birthright" and other programs, attended as well. WUJS (World Union of Jewish Students) is an international organization which incorporates a large number of bodies active on student campuses around the world, and works on behalf of Jewish students and Israel. During the year the organization is involved in many different activities and also conducts campaigns of support and fund-raising for Jewish and Israeli causes worldwide. This year WUJS became known in the international media as the only Jewish organization to show support for Israel at the Durban conference on racism. The WUJS also worked on Israel's behalf at the last Geneva conference as well as in the campaign for the return of Israel's MIA's in Lebanon. The Congress took place in Israel in solidarity with the State under the slogan of Israel's hasbarah efforts worldwide and in the Jewish world. The Congress, which lasted 6 days, discussed issues including: political updates, Israel in the world media, Israel-Diaspora relations; Jewish education in the Diaspora, public and educational activity by Jewish students on campus, and more. A tree-planting ceremony was included in the program. The Congress was attended by honored guests, Minister Zippi Livni, Deputy Minister Michael Melchior, and Avi Becker - Secretary General of the World Jewish Congress.
