59 THOUSAND OLIM ARRIVED IN ISRAEL SINCE DISTURBANCES ERRUPTED
 
In 2001, 44,13 Olim came to Israel, 33,763 from the FSU

At the dawn of the year 2002, the population of the State of Israel is estimated at 6.5 million. Despite the security situation, 58,927 olim from all parts of the world have made aliyah since violence erupted in the Territories. During 2001, 44,413 olim made aliyah from all over the world - 33,763 of them from the FSU. 3,294 olim came from Ethiopia during 2001 - a 46.7% increase compared with the year 2000 (2,245), and 1,400 olim came from Argentina - a 33% increase compared with the year 2000 (1,053).

Of all the olim who arrived in Israel last year, 10,533 (24%) were children and youngsters up to the age of 17; 13,769 (31%) were in the 18-32 age group; 6,730 (15%) - age 33-44; 8,992 (20%) - age 45-64; and 4,389 (10%) were over the age of 65.

Of the olim from the FSU: 14,028 were from the Ukraine; 10,849 from Russia; 2,030 from Uzbekistan; 1,988 from Belarus; 989 - from Kazakhstan; 954 from Moldova; 743 from Georgia; 668 from the Baltic States; 612 from Azerbaijan; 275 from Kirghistan; 157 from Turkmenistan; 101 from Armenia and 47 from Tajikistan (the origin of 19 olim was not defined).
