GAON COMMUNICATIONS AND THE WZO SETTLEMENT DIVISION ESTABLISH A COMMUNICATIONS CENTER IN MA'ALE EFRAIM The Gaon Communications Group and the WZO Settlement Division will cooperate in establishing a communications center in the Jordan Valley town of Ma'ale Efraim to serve the operations of the special Russian-language Channel and Heritage Channel. The modern multimedia facility is scheduled to open soon as a technical college for the various communications professions. The center, housing production, editing and broadcast studios, was established with funding from the WZO Settlement Division, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the local and regional authorities. Shai Lavie, Director of the Settlement Division's Central Region, reported that while the communications center was originally slated as an academic and technical training facility, with correct management and marketing, it could serve both the educational and the business sectors, providing additional jobs for the region. Gaon Communications and the Heritage Channel officials expressed great interest in the facility and the potential for development there, and reached an agreement with the Settlement Division and Ma'ale Efraim Mayor David Koplowitz. The two companies agreed to resume looking into the possibility for advancing the joint project when the studio's construction is completed and additional technical equipment is installed that would allow the center to operate as a professional editing and broadcast facility.
