JEWISH AGENCY GRANTS 3 MILLION SHEKELS IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS IN THE NORTH OF ISRAEL

The Jewish Agency distributed NIS 70,000 in scholarships this week to Mevo'ot Hermon Regional Council residents studying at the Tel Hai Community College.

The director for the Jewish Agency's Northern District, Zvi Kahana, reported that the scholarships were meant to help advance higher education in northern Israel, in order to strengthen the Galilee and Confrontation Line regions and encourage young people to settle in the area.

Kahana added that the Jewish Agency would distribute about 2.7 million shekels during the course of 2001 to students in the north of the country, including moshav and kibbutz members. The scholarships will be allocated to students at the Central Galilee, Tel Hai, Jordan Valley and Safed Community Colleges both for tuition and research projects.
