THOUSANDS ATTEND JEWISH THEATER FESTIVAL IN LEEDS, UK

A Jewish Theater Festival was held in Leeds, in the north of England, between June 3rd - 6th 2001. The Festival was organized by Yehuda Bergman, Jewish Agency community emissary in Leeds, who managed to combine educational motifs with activities that encourage aliyah.

200 guests attended the festival, mostly from Leeds and some from other northern communities such as Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. A large number of youth and Jewish Agency shlichim in the UK participated.

The festival made a strong impression on the Jewish community, and its educational objectives contributed considerably to the Jewish Agency's image as a partner of Jews on behalf of Jews, emphasizing the significance of Israel in the life of the Jewish people, wherever they are.

This first event of its kind has paved the way for more, larger scale festivals, next year with greater participation of actors, more plays and viewers from all over the Jewish world.
