NEW "OHALO" COLLEGE CAMPUS TO BE INAUGURATED AT QATZERIN

The NIS 28 million campus will be inaugurated in presence of Prime Minister & Jewish Agency Chairman

In the presence of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Jewish Agency Chairman Sallai Meridor the new campus of the "Ohalo" College was inaugurated at Qatzerin last Tuesday, July 10th.

The Ohalo College of Education and Sport was founded in the Jordan Valley in 1965, in order to meet educational needs in the north of Israel. Two decades later, the college has grown and needs to be relocated. Working together, the WZO Settlement Division and Golan Regional Council leaders, moved the college to Qatzerin, initially to the local community center, while at the same time beginning the construction of a new, spacious campus to meet the needs of the college in the 21st Century.

Such a college on the Golan Heights will become a catapult for development, for absorbing quality people and providing suitable employment. The Settlement Division, Ministry of Education and other bodies collected the necessary funds for the project which cost NIS 28 million. Work on the campus building was recently completed, and it is now open to the public. The athletics stadium and library will open shortly.

900 teacher-training students attended the college in the 2000-2001 academic year, mostly studying sports and physical education, and the college now also employs 125 teachers and administrative staff.
