CHESLER: REINFORCING JEWISH EDUCATION AGAINST ASSIMILATION AND FOR INCREASED IMMIGRATION
Jewish Agency chairman Sallai Meridor, issued a call to strengthen settlement in the Galilee and asked world Jewry to help achieve this goal. Meridor also called on all Jewish organizations abroad, and especially the World Maccabi Movement, to bring their groups to Israel. "The Palestinians are well aware that they cannot beat us militarily, and they are therefore trying to dampen the Zionist spirit with terror attacks and through the international media. This is the time for Jews the world over to unite and stand behind Israel". Meridor further stated that since the outbreak of violence 36,000 Jews have made aliyah and that 1300 Israeli youngsters have gone to be counselors at summer camps all over the world. Jewish Agency Chairman Chaim Chesler congratulated the United Jewish Communities for their solidarity with, and encouragement of visits to Israel. Chesler reported to the participants regarding the new project enabling 700 high school disadvantaged students to go on a heritage trip to Poland : "we wish to strengthen Jewish education in the world and particularly in the FSU, fight assimilation and encourage immigration," he said. |
