OLIM FIND JOBS FOLLOWING EMPLOYMENT FAIR IN ASHDOD
At the employment fair that took place at Beit Canada in Ashdod this week, was initiated by the Ministry of Absorption, the Employment Assistance Center, the Jewish Agency's central region office, the Academic Employment Service and the Ashdod municipality. Some 2,000 job seekers, mostly recent olim from the Ashdod and southern region attended the employment fair. The fair was designed to help olim who live in the Ashdod and surrounding area to find work suited to their education and professions. 30 hi-tech, industrial and service companies as well as commercial organizations, engineering and metal industries had stands at the fair and offered the olim employment. Well known companies present included: Intel, Elta, Israel Aircraft Industries, Aerobot, Dvall Engineering, Etho Kav, Herut - Electro-mechanical engineering, Aggan Chemicals, Akan Hamazganim (air-conditioning systems), Taavura Holdings, and more. The event took place in the presence of the Mayor - Zvi Zilker, Ms. Yolanda Strauss who heads the Tel Aviv region office at the Ministry of Absorption, Mr. Yehuda Sharf - deputy director of the Jewish Agency's central region office, and Mr, Eldad Knafu - representative of the Employment Service for Academics in Ashdod. The Employment Assistance Center which operates from the Beit Canada absorption center, and is run jointly by the Ministry of Absorption and the Jewish Agency, handles the integration of olim in the work force on a daily basis, and helps olim from the center of the country find employment. Success story - Sisbet, a hi-tech company based in the center of the country managed during the fair to recruit academics and skilled professionals, as did Aggan Chemicals, Supergum, and Herut Engineering. In view of the fair's success, Ministry of Absorption representatives, Ashdod Mayor Zvi Zilker, and Jewish Agency central region directors undertook to turn fairs of this kind into a springboard for employment and to hold similar fairs during the second half of 2001. |
