ANOTHER WEEK OF BLOODY INCIDENTS IN SPITE OF CEASE FIRE; THREE DEAD IN
SHOOTING AMBUSH; KEREN DORFMAN (Z"L), 21ST VICTIM OF DOLFINARIUM ATTACK,
DIES IN TEL AVIV SHARON WILL LIKELY MEET BUSH IN WASHINGTON, POWELL ARRIVES IN MIDDLE EAST IN EFFORT TO SAVE TENET AGREEMENT FOR CEASE FIRE SETTLERS IN JUDEA & SAMARIA DISAPPOINTED WITH GOVERNMENT POLICY OF RESTRAINT
Keren immigrated to Israel with her mother seven years ago. They lived in Bat Yam where Keren studied dance and was full of life: "she loved Israel so much" said the mother after the funeral. I told her to save money and travel abroad, to see the world. She did not want to see other countries - she was so happy here." Sixty two year old Ilyia Krivitz (z"l) from Homesh in Samaria, was killed yesterday. He was shot dead by a Palestinian terrorist when he got out of his car in an Arab village situated in Area B. Two days earlier, two more Jews were killed in Samaria; 32 year old Doron Ziserman (z"l) from Einav and 35 year old Danny Yehuda from Homesh. The latest victims of Palestinian terrorist attacks are added to the long list of shooting incidents that occurred this week in different areas of Israel, including a shooting incident near Um-El Fahm, inside the Green Line. Palestinian officials claim that they cannot secure the cease-fire in areas outside the full control of their military. Israeli Intelligence officials contend that Arafat plans to continue the terrorist activity at reduced levels while attacks are mainly directed towards settlers living in areas lying outside Palestinian military jurisdiction. This week, two Palestinians from Arafat's Presidential Guard (Force 17) were arrested, and confessed to killing the Greek Orthodox monk last week. The two told that they were recruited and briefed by the Head of the Tanzim in the West Bank, Marwan Barghouti. Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon is still debating whether to travel to the US next week to meet with President George Bush at the White House. In the meantime, US Secretary of State Colin Powell announced that he will be coming to the Middle East next week to meet with the Heads of the States in the area, in an attempt to save the cease-fire. Sharon is also continuing in his efforts to calm the area and spoke on the phone with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak this week asking him to exert pressure on Arafat for the reduction of violence. Israel's continued policy of restraint raises great anger among the settlers in Judea and Samaria. In recent weeks, they have been starting the funeral processions near the Prime Minister's office in Jerusalem, and continue to blame Sharon for "carrying out Peres' policy." Yet, a survey conducted by Dr. Mina Tzemach among settlers in Judea and Samaria this week indicates that 70% of the settlers trust Sharon and 54% of them stated that they will not leave the settlements under any circumstances. 19% of the settlers stated in the survey that they are considering to leave in view of the continuing violence and killings. |
