Jewish Zionist Education and IdentityWhile impacting upon the Jewish educational system in North America, the Jewish Agency is also actively involved in strengthening the Jewish consciousness and commitment of young Israelis, to ensure that they continue to share a common identity with their fellow Jews around the world. Providing a Jewish experience of Israel is vital in developing Jewish identity. Every effort is being made to develop new models and encourage youth and students to participate in safe and life-changing programs in Israel, thus ensuring future leadership for the Jewish world. In the former Soviet Union, the Jewish Agency's contribution to be the lifeline to a Jewish past and future in this dispersed, assimilated region. Through a variety of programs, many in the most far flung communities, the Jewish Agency is developing an indigenous cadre of personnel to serve its extensive network of courses, summer camps an other activities that help provide an Israel-oriented Jewish education. At the other end of the world, in economic-crisis-ridden Argentine, the Jewish Agency is helping to strengthen the local Jewish educational network, which has suffered the closing of many schools and the cancellation of numerous educational and social services. New technologies, such as distance learning and innovative curricula programming, are being vigorously pursued. New ways of communicating traditional values and knowledge are forging clear pathways through apathy and ignorance. Working together with world Jewry, the Jewish Agency is determined to see that the teachers and leaders of tomorrow's global Jewish community are being prepared today.
